To Be, Or Not To Be, Yourself
When people say they hate you for what you are, tell them that it feels better than being loved for what you are not.—Unknown
Upon reflection I see at some level I realized this fact early on, which led me to shape my own destiny—even though it was clumsy and a bit self destructive at times. It wasn’t until after my treatment that it became evident to me that the magnitude of that experience transformed my approach to life. It became a significant point of demarcation—life before treatment and life after treatment. Before treatment it was a constant battle to fit into a life I couldn’t understand or believe in. It was time to learn some life lessons.
At that point I realized that my purpose for being here transcends being likeable or popular. If people love me and want to associate with me, it will be because of what I am and not what others believe I should be. There arises a sense of peace, confidence, and tranquility that is born out of that realization. Being oneself transcends the politics of relationships and subsequently ends the struggle to be oneself
